The farewell service for former Lunte Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister, Hon. Elder Mutotwe Kafwaya, will be held today, Friday, August 28, 2026, in Lusaka.
According to a notice issued by the Tabernacle of David Assembly–City Mission Church, the service will take place at the church premises along Given Lubinda Road, formerly Lilayi Road, off Tokyo Way, starting at 10:00 hours.
The service follows the death of Mr. Kafwaya, who was fatally shot during a security operation in Lusaka on August 13, 2026, in an incident authorities described as an exchange of fire involving law enforcement officers.
His death has attracted significant public attention, with his family earlier raising concerns over the disappearance of his clothes and personal belongings following his death.
Family representative Mukupa Busuma said relatives were shocked to find Mr. Kafwaya’s body without clothes when they arrived at Maina Soko Medical Centre ahead of the postmortem. The family has maintained that recovering the clothes he was wearing and his personal belongings is important for cultural and family reasons.
The family has reportedly been engaging Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa over the matter.
Meanwhile, Government offered to accord Mr. Kafwaya a funeral and burial with honours applicable to a former Cabinet Minister, in recognition of his service in Government.
Mr. Kafwaya served as Minister of Works and Supply from 2018 to 2019 and later as Minister of Transport and Communications from 2019 to 2021.
However, the family respectfully declined the Government’s offer and opted for a private funeral.
The farewell service at Tabernacle of David Assembly–City Mission Church will therefore provide an opportunity for family, church members, friends, colleagues and members of the public to pay their final respects to the former lawmaker and Cabinet Minister.
Church Administrator Elder Davis Mushekwa said the church was informing its members and the general public of the arrangements for the service.
