To be a man is to bear responsibility for everything, especially when you have been privileged to serve your country.
I say this in response to the article that is circulating on social media in which the former board chairperson of the dissolved Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is now saying they faced challenges in pursuing or getting to book people in the current administration or those in the previous administration with serious corrupt cases, and that his officers worked and still work under serious difficult conditions after the president dissolved the board is simply a sign of failure, which is typical of most of our leaders.
Did it have to take the president to dissolve the board for the ex-chairperson to say what he has said now? It’s been almost 2 years in that position, and I am sure that in the first six months Mr. Musa, being the person that we all, the Zambian people, believed he was, and I am sure even the president believed, hence bestowing him with the privilege of serving as board chairperson. He saw those challenges and believed that he could deliver, but he failed! The best and most honorable thing he could and should do is just be sincere and thank the president and the Zambian people at large for the privilege and honor he was given to serve.
If indeed there were those challenges, he is now claiming he could have made them public so that the nation is aware, but what does he do? He kept quiet and instead started just enjoying the privileges that come with the position and became business as usual. It’s very unfortunate, and this is what happens when we fail to take responsibility, failure is inevitable, and in the end, nothing gets done.
We must bear responsibility for all things, that’s being a man.
