The Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board (HELSB) has awarded student loans to 1,457 first-year students at Mulungushi University for the 2024–2025 academic year.
Among the recipients, three students are persons with disabilities, including one male and two females.
Of the total awardees, 783 are male and 674 are female, making up 54% and 46% of the recipients, respectively.
A significant majority, 1,167 students (80%), are enrolled in science-based programs, while 290 students (20%) are in arts-based programs.
HELSB Corporate Communications and Customer Services Manager, Chiselwa Kawanda, stated that the loans aim to promote equitable access to higher education.
“HELSB’s rigorous selection process followed a competitive application period, during which the board received 4,801 applications for student loans at Mulungushi University,” said Kawanda.
