FIFA-licensed football agent Tumbukani Museteka says there is growing hope for Zambian football to fully align with international transfer requirements, describing the current transfer window as “delightful” due to increased player movements both locally and abroad.

According to Museteka, the fact that Zambian clubs are now receiving inquiries about their players shows that the country’s football is gaining international recognition. This interest is an indicator that Zambian players are in increasing demand and have the potential to break into more competitive leagues worldwide.
Challenges Still Holding Back Progress
However, Museteka highlighted a number of persistent challenges that continue to limit the smooth flow of player transfers:
- Lack of video coverage and statistics: Many Zambian clubs lack proper match footage, data, or highlights, which hinders their ability to effectively market their players to international scouts and clubs.
- Administrative delays: Poor facilitation of player movements, resistance from some officials, and delays in paperwork often frustrate players and prevent clubs from earning valuable transfer fees.
- Limited sensitization: There is still inadequate awareness about the importance of following FIFA transfer guidelines and how failure to act swiftly can hurt both players and clubs.
A Call for Stronger Willpower
Museteka urged local football administrators and clubs to demonstrate stronger willpower in resolving transfer issues, warning that “snoozing” on player movements not only stifles careers but also costs clubs financially.
“Football has laid down clear guidelines, and teams need to follow the right procedures when recruiting or releasing players. We need more sensitization around player transfers because when players are delayed, both their careers and clubs’ progress suffer,” Museteka stressed.
Positive Signs Ahead
Despite these challenges, the agent remains optimistic, noting that the growing number of inquiries and deals is a step in the right direction. He believes with better administration, investment in statistics, and improved video coverage, Zambia can fully tap into the global football market and position its players for success abroad.
