Hichilema to Attend Namibia’s Historic Presidential Inauguration

Lusaka, Zambia – March 20, 2025: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has announced that President Hakainde Hichilema of the Republic of Zambia has accepted an invitation to attend the inauguration ceremony of Namibia’s President-elect, Her Excellency Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.

The ceremony is set to take place on Friday, March 21, 2025, in Windhoek, following the general elections held in November 2024. Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah emerged victorious in the elections, making history as Namibia’s first female president and the country’s fifth head of state.

President Hichilema will join other Heads of State and Government to demonstrate regional solidarity and reaffirm a collective commitment to democratic principles through the peaceful transition of power.

Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah, born October 29, 1952, has had an illustrious political career. She has been Namibia’s third Vice President since February 2024 and was the first female presidential candidate for the ruling SWAPO party in the 2024 elections.

President Hichilema is expected to return to Zambia immediately after the ceremony.
