Team Zambia’s Simon Zulu Disqualified from Paris 2024 Olympic Judo Competition

Simon Zulu, a judo athlete representing Team Zambia, has been disqualified from the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Zulu was eliminated via Hansoku-make (disqualification) in his contest against Jin-Won Kim of the Republic of Korea.

Following the bout, Judo Coach Humphrey Nyirenda commented on the disqualification, stating, “Simon’s fight was a tough contest, but the Judo rules are clear. He was disqualified on the basis that he had used his head in terms of attack or defense, which amounts to direct disqualification for his own protection.”

Nyirenda also discussed the team’s plans moving forward after Zulu’s exit from the competition. “We get back on the tatami with a focus on the next upcoming competitions and preparing for the next Olympic cycle leading up to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games,” he said.

Despite the setback, Zulu’s participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games marks a significant achievement. His dedication and hard work have brought him to the world stage, representing Zambia with pride. This experience will undoubtedly contribute to his growth as an athlete.
