The second stage of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) training for Zambian referees has officially wrapped up, marking another key step in the country’s journey toward adopting modern football technologies.
The training, a collaborative effort between the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), FIFA, and the Confederation of African Football (CAF), brought together 40 referees drawn from both the FIFA and National panels.
This phase of the programme focused on equipping the match officials with comprehensive knowledge of VAR operations and sharpening their skills to meet the demands of the modern game.
FAZ says the exercise is part of its broader strategy to align local refereeing standards with global trends and ensure that Zambian football keeps pace with the evolving nature of the sport.
With the second stage now complete, the referees are expected to continue with further sessions and practical assessments before full VAR deployment in domestic competitions can be realized.
The successful hosting of the training highlights Zambia’s commitment to raising refereeing standards and enhancing the integrity of the game through technology.
